Physical, measured, repeatable effects. We arrive with the effect tested in our workshop so on set you only need to roll.

Liquids and tabletop
Splashes, pours, bubbles and condensation for product and food, high speed included.

Mechanics and rigs
Repeatable moves, triggers, pulleys and custom rigs so the effect lands the same on every take.

Rain and water
Rain bars, localised rain on windows, puddles and wet-downs. Flow and drop size matched to the lens.

Working props
Props that have to work on camera: they open, break, smoke or move.

Wind
Fans and turbines with speed control, from a breeze in the hair to a full storm.

Snow and particles
Biodegradable snow, dust, ash and confetti, falling or laid on the ground.

Smoke and atmospheres
Haze, low fog, coloured smoke and steam for tabletop, stable from take to take.

Fire and sparks
Controlled flame, braziers, cold sparks and heat effects with dedicated crew and safety measures.

Breakaways
Sugar glass, bottles and breakaway props, breaks synced to the camera trigger.
About us
Practical is a practical special effects crew based in Barcelona. We come from the set: years of high-end commercials, tabletop and drama, solving what has to happen in front of the camera rather than in post.
We share workshop and resources with Duality (camera, lighting and grip) and Hangar Studio, so the effect arrives on set integrated with the rest of the technical crew.

Javier Gonzalez
Lead SFX Technician
An engineer and leader of the SFX team, combines innovation, technical expertise, and precision to elevate every project to the next level. His hands-on and detail-oriented approach ensures that every special effect is flawlessly executed, from initial concepts to final on-camera performance. Under his leadership, the in-house SFX team not only tackles creative challenges but consistently redefines what’s possible, delivering technical solutions that stand out for their ingenuity and excellence. His ability to collaborate closely with directors, cinematographers, and producers ensures that every creative vision comes to life with unmatched visual impact.

SFX Technician
With a background in Fine Arts, brings a uniquely creative perspective to the SFX team, blending artistic sensitivity with impeccable technical expertise. Her ability to turn concepts into striking visual effects ensures each project achieves the perfect balance between aesthetics and functionality. Every detail reflects a fusion of creativity and precision, raising the bar for what’s possible in the world of special effects and leaving her artistic mark on every production.
